UPDATE 7:00am 6/9/20: Sebastian Rodriguez Castro Search
No
further leads were reported overnight. Vail Mountain Rescue did not launch kayaks
yesterday evening as planned due to the weather. The County did receive a fair
amount of rain with snow in some areas overnight.
Yesterday’s
search activities included:
5 total
boats
17
searchers
72
search hours
The
plan today is to deploy a Garfield County Search and Rescue (GCSAR) dog team
with Vail Mountain Rescue (VMR) teams in the Eagle and Gypsum area. We will
also be utilizing GCSAR's Rescue Cat (motorized boat) running the shore lines
from Dotsero down into Glenwood Canyon and back. Additionally, two other VMR staffed boats are
planning to launch, along with a drone team.
All
search activities today are weather permitting.
Thank
you to VMR and GCSAR for their tireless efforts and to everyone else who has
participated in efforts to locate Sebastian. The amount of community support
has been amazing and overwhelming.
We
would be remiss if we did not also thank the Vail Valley Salvation Army for providing
meals for volunteers, first responders and the incident management team. Thank
you also to Vail Honeywagon, who provided a hand washing station for volunteers
to help ensure safe practices during our new era of living with COVID-19.
